Venere Lake
- Pantelleria Island
Venere Lake
Located between Africa and Sicily, is Pantelleria. This special place is considered a nature paradise because of its multiple peculiarities that characterise it.
It is of volcanic origin, and it is still possible to see residual signs of both ancient activity around the now extinct Montagna Grande crater. This crater is where there are 24 mouths known as “cuddie”, and inside the center of the crater itself, is where Venus’ mirror remains – a charming little lake, fed by natural springs.
Morphologically and geologically, the island is very interesting because it has coasts full of beaches, needle inlets, rock formations, and grottoes which include “Pertusa di Notaro” (Notary’s hole), also known as the “Cavità del Freddo” (Cold Cavity). It also comprises of trachyetes, basalt, obsidian (a particular rock), and crossyrite (meaning Pantelleria, Cossyra in Greek).
